Seal, State of Oklahoma

STATE OF OKLAHOMA SEAL -  The Great Seal of the State of Oklahoma consists of a five-pointed star in a circle.  According to a statute adopted in 1957, the flag of the governor of Oklahoma consists of a forest green field, fringed in gold, charged with the state seal surrounded by a pentagram of five white stars.

The seal itself contains six seals:

United States Navy Seal

UNITED STATES NAVY SEAL -  In 1962, President Kennedy established SEAL Teams ONE and TWO from the existing UDT Teams to develop a Navy Unconventional Warfare capability.  The Navy SEAL Teams were designed as the maritime counterpart to the Army Special Forces “Green Berets.”

Veteran, War of 1812

WAR OF 1812 VETERAN -  The War of 1812 was a military conflict that lasted from June, 1812 to February, 1815 fought between the United States of America and the United Kingdom, its North American colonies, and its Native American allies.  Historians in the United States and Canada see it as a war in its own right, but the British often see it as a minor theater of the Napoleonic Wars.  By the war's end in early 1815, the key issues had been resolved and peace returned with no boundary changes.

Trail of Tears Association (TOTA)

TRAIL OF TEARS ASSOCIATION (TOTA) -  The Trail of Tears Association (TOTA) is a non-profit, membership organization formed in 1993 to support the creation, development, and interpretation of the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail.  Designated as a national historic trail by Congress in 1987, the Trail commemorates the forced removal of the Cherokee people from their homelands in the southeastern United States to Indian Territory (present-day Oklahoma) in 1838 - 1839.

Seal, State of Texas

STATE OF TEXAS SEAL -  The Seal of the State of Texas was adopted through the 1845 Texas Constitution, and was based on the seal of the Republic of Texas, which dates from January 25, 1839.  The seal of Texas has changed 5 times since independence from Mexico in 1836.  The original Great Seal of the Republic was created on December 10, 1836, by the Congress, with a bill providing that "for the future the national seal of this republic shall consist of a single star, with the letters 'Republic of Texas', circular on said seal, which seal shall also be circular".

United States Air Force

UNITED STATES AIR FORCE -  The United States Air Force (USAF) is the aerial warfare service branch of the United States Armed Forces and one of the seven American uniformed services.  Initially part of the United States Army, the USAF was formed as a separate branch of the military on September 18, 1947 under the National Security Act of 1947.   It is the most recent branch of the U.S. military to be formed, and is the largest and one of the world's most technologically advanced air forces.

Flag Emblem, Oklahoma

EMBLEM ON THE OKLAHOMA FLAG -  The current state flag of Oklahoma, designed by Louise Fluke, was adopted in 1925 (Oklahoma had 13 previous flags). The flag of the state of Oklahoma consists of a traditional Osage Nation buffalo-skin shield with seven eagle feathers on a sky blue field.

United States Military Airlift Command

MILITARY AIRLIFT COMMAND -  The Military Airlift Command (MAC) is an inactive United States Air Force major command (MAJCOM) that was headquartered at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois.  Established on January 1, 1966, MAC was the primary strategic airlift organization of the Air Force until 1974, when Air Force tactical airlift units were merged into MAC to create a unified airlift organization.

Tree, Orange

ORANGE TREE -  The orange tree is regarded as a symbol of purity, chastity, and generosity.  Thus it is occasionally depicted in paintings of the Virgin Mary.  Its white flower is also used to suggest  purity, and for this reason orange blossoms are the traditional adornment of brides. 

Medal, of Freedom (Presidential)

PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM - The Presidential Medal of Freedom is an award bestowed by the President of the United States and is—along with the comparable Congressional Gold Medal—the highest civilian award of the United States.   It recognizes those people who have made "an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors".
