Council appoints Read and Ward to Planning & Zoning Commission

On November 1, 2016 the Grove Mayor and Council appointed Judith Read and Steve Ward to serve as members of the Planning & Zoning Commission.  Both Read and Ward will serve three-year terms, expiring on 10/31/19.

Mayor & Council adopt Annexation Plan

On November 1, 2016, the Mayor and City Council adopted an Annexation Plan to establish guidelines which mirror the Oklahoma State Statutes.

Grove is growing:

Badge, Sheriff or Deputy

SHERIFF OR DEPUTY BADGE -  The largest surge in the popularity of the star probably began in the western territories.  The symbols of things "American", such as eagles and the five-pointed star from the U.S. flags, were (and still are) common subjects for portrayal on badges.  The star was much easier and less expensive to make than an eagle-themed badge.

Wolves

WOLVES -  The wolf symbolizes direction, leadership and protection in Native American culture.  Not at all the picture of ferocity or terror, the Wolf is a creature with a high sense of loyalty and strength.   Another misconception is that of the "lone wolf" because the Wolf is actually a social creature, friendly, and gregarious with its counterparts.

Totemic Wolf Meanings:

Camp Fire Girls (Wo-He-Lo)

CAMP FIRE GIRLS (WO-HE-LO) -  Camp Fire Girls began in 1910 as a youth development organization for girls whose programs emphasize camping and other outdoor activities for youth.  Today the organization has both boys and girls and is called Camp Fire USA.  Boys were first included in 1975.  The Camp Fire greeting “Wo-He-Lo” comes from the first two letters of the words:  Work, Health & Love.

Sufism Reoriented

SUFISM REORIENTED -  Sufism Reoriented is based on principles of universal love and selfless service – active love for God and active service to God’s world – in the knowledge that all life is One.  The symbol of the order is the winged heart, in which Meher Baba placed the number “one”.The winged heart emblazoned with the number one represents the transformative power of divine love, which raises all life higher.  The one in the center refers to the one God, who is at the center and heart of all persons and things in Creation.

Church of World Messianity

THE CHURCH OF WORLD MESSIANITY -  The Church of World Messianity (世界救世教 Sekai Kyūsei Kyō in Japanese), abbreviated COWM, is a Japanese new religion founded in 1935 by Mokichi Okada.  The religion's key concept is johrei, claimed to be a method of channeling divine light into the body of another for the purposes of healing.

Church, Humanist (Emblem of Spirit)

HUMANIST CHURCH (EMBLEM OF SPIRIT) -   “Humanist” is used today to mean those who seek to live good lives without religious or superstitious beliefs.  Humanism is an approach to life based on reason and our common humanity, recognizing that moral values are properly founded on human nature and experience alone.  While atheism is merely the absence of belief, humanism is a positive attitude to the world, centered on human experience, thought, and hopes.
