Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War

DAUGHTERS OF UNION VETERANS OF THE CIVIL WAR -  These are daughters, granddaughters and great granddaughters of any generation of honorably discharged soldiers and sailors who served in the Union Army,  Navy, or  Marine Corps and Revenue Cutter Service during the Rebellion of 1861 – 1865, and those who died or were killed while serving in the armed services of the Union between April 12, 1861 and April 9, 1865.

Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War

SONS OF UNION VETERANS OF THE CIVIL WAR -  Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) is an American fraternal organization, the legal successor to the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR).  Founded in late 1881, it was originally one of several competing organizations of descendants of Union veterans.  By 1886, others had joined the SUVCW.

Scythe and Hourglass

SCYTHE AND HOURGLASS -   In early renderings the scythe represented the Reaper and is shown holding arrows, darts, spears or crossbows.  Over time, a scythe came to replace these other instruments of death.  The scythe represents the reaping of life and the hourglass represents that your earthly time has ran out.  Usually the scythe is shown with an hourglass or (Father Time) an old man with a beard, holding the hourglass and/or scythe.

Scales

SCALES -  The scales (specifically, a two-pan, beam balance) are one of the traditional symbols of justice, as wielded by statues of Lady Justice.  Originating in Chaldea as the mystic symbol of justice, it represents the equivalence of guilt and punishment.  Symbolism in the Ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead depicts a scene in which a scribe's heart is weighed against the feather of truth.   Usually found on the headstones of judges.

Penguin

PENGUIN -  Penguin Totem Animal is an example of real lasting and enduring love and commitment as most Penguins mate for life.  When they mate the male actually warms and keeps the egg alive, while the female makes the epic journey to the sea for food.  Overall, penguin symbolic meanings are diverse and not always so obvious as the symbolism of some other plants and animals. 

Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP)

OKLAHOMA HIGHWAY PATROL (OHP) -  The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) is a major state law enforcement agency of the government of Oklahoma.  A division of the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety, the OHP acts as Oklahoma's state police agency.  OHP was legislatively created on July 1, 1937 due to the growing problem of motor vehicle collisions, the expansion of a highway system, and the increase in criminal activities.

Badge, Police

POLICE - A police force is a constituted body of persons empowered by the state to enforce the law, protect property, and limit civil disorder.   Their powers include the legitimized use of force.  The term is most commonly associated with police services of a sovereign state that are authorized to exercise the police power of that state within a defined legal or territorial area of responsibility.  Police forces are often defined as being separate from military or other organizations involved in the defense of the state against foreign aggressors.

Lizard (Gecko)

LIZARD (GECKO) -  Gecko in Latin,  means fortune, re-growth and overall life.  There are also symbolic representations of the loss and the quick regeneration of the gecko’s tail.  Lizards are also a symbol of transformation and regeneration.  Some Native American traditions also called on Brother Lizard as a sign of protection and self conservation. The lizard is one of many Native American totem animals and is often referred to as Brother Lizard.  Brother Lizard represents dreams and one's connection with the dream world.   

Order of Saint John

ORDER OF KNIGHTS OF THE HOSPITAL OF SAINT JOHN OF JERUSALEM (ORDER OF SAINT JOHN) -  The Order of Knights of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem, also known as the Order of Saint John, Order of Hospitallers, Knights Hospitaller, or Hospitallers, was the name of the medieval Catholic military order that preceded the contemporary Sovereign Military Order of Malta, which remains a sovereign subject of international law.   It was headquartered variously in the Kingdom of Jerusalem, Rhodes and Malta, until it became known by its current name.
